Questions about C25K

We get questions all the time about the programs. But more than any other program, people who want to do Couch to 5K are the most wary. So, here is a recent email to someone inquiring about the program and the answers to their questions...

Katie- Your friend's questions are very very valid and common. It's good because it shows she is thinking through the commitment and is therefore more likely to follow through. So, Hooray for her!!!

1) How "couch" can you be? (She wants to be a runner but hasn't really done it before at all and in her experience "all ability levels are welcome" hasn't proven to be true. )

Answer: This is truly for all ability levels, I promise! The last C25K we had from 11 yrs old or so up to 75 yrs old. We divide into pace groups which allow people to go at different speeds but to be with others. She will have people with her and we start slow with just a mnute of jogging followed by a walk break.

2) Is it like a boot camp where you tell us what to do and we go do it or are you right there with us?

Answer: I have pace group leaders who come along and help me lead the different groups. So there is always either one of my pacers or a designated leader from the group with each different pace group.

3) Is there "homework?"

Answer: You have two other runs a week to accomplish.

4) They both have to miss a meeting because they'll be out of town--is this okay?

Answer: Not a problem at all. I encourage those who miss to try to still get three runs in even if they are out of town, but the runs are 20-30 min only. So, totally doable! Hope this helps! I'm not trying to creat olympic athletes or Navy Seals here, just to get people more fit and happier because of it!
